We heard some loud noises coming from the roof this morning. Like someone was wrestling up there. Went outside to discover a raccoon is hanging out in a little space beneath the eaves and the roof, trying to burrow his way into our attic.
My husband just tried spraying his with a garden hose to encourage him/her to leave, but no such luck.
Anyone have any experience with getting them to leave?

Home Depot sells rat posion in these green squares. Spread some peanut butter on a few and leave them near your garbage cans where they forage for food.
The will be gone in about a week.

We have one that, each Spring, tries to nest in the hayloft of our barn. We shine a very bright light in the corner that she's chosen, and play a radio very loud up there! Yes, all day, all night!! It works! Good luck!! You don't want them in your attic!!

Get a trapper. For a $150 per they get taken away.
Do not listen to anyone telling you to feed them poison - it is illegal.

Wait for him to exit and seal the hole. If you manage to get him out he won't come back in the daylight so you will have time to seal up the hole. It's important to not have holes in your house. Bees, birds, rats, raccoons and a variety of insects can enter through any openings.
It is illegal to lay poison down and once the poison is gone the hole will continue to invite all kinds of creatures.
So fix the hole to fix your problem.
The trap is a bad idea too. You would be very surprised how much of a fight even a small raccoon can put up when held against it's will. Obviously leaving the animal in the trap is immoral, unethical and also illegal.

No, it isn't. Paying less for a method that doesn't work isn't "Cheaper". Generally that's called "Wasting money".
