Not sure about that, but I do know this... people bring them to the County fairs, where they have judging, etc... I've seen them at the LA, Orange, and Antelope Valley fairs.

California as a whole is #2 in the nation for Sheep. For the most part the industry is on the Northern Side of the state North of the Bay Area. Not to say that you won't find operations within the Southern part of the state. Many hobby farmers may have small scale operations within the LA, Ventura, and Riverside County areas. Also in Kern County you may find small 100 head or smaller operations.

I did find an interesting law on the books.

"You cannot herd more than 3000 sheep down Hollywood Boulevard at any one given time."

I drove out to Leona Valley yesterday and saw a llama ranch on Elizabeth Lake Road... but didn't see any sheep... lots of horses out there, though.

are the barns in the san fernando valley still in use (like with farm animals in them or around them)?

it seems like the rural areas of LA are all in the northern part of the city/county. is this true?

Forgive my ignorance guys, but when I was young I remember seeing strawberry fields (I think) in Orange County not far from Disneyland. I know the San Fernando Valley was once rich farmland too. Are there any remnants of the LA Basin's agriculture left (even if its just a few acre truck farm?). I speaking of right in the city or urban OC.
