We are possibly relocating from south OC up to the Glendale area for work. We're looking for a nice neighborhood that's safe with good schools where we could rent a 2 bedroom for about $2000 a month. I keep hearing that the foothills areas are the nicest (mostly mentioned are Montrose, La Canada, Pasadena), but I would love and really appreciate some insider views on the area! Thanks in advance.

There is a huge Armenian population in Glendale. Armenians are very family-oriented people and keep the city clean and safe.(History fact:they were the first nation to accept Christianity as the official state religion.)
On the other hand, because of that, the city has a distinctive Armenian flavor. You will be hearing a lot of the Armenian language and music, and seeing black Mercedes' everywhere . You might like it, and you might not , so visit before you move.
A great plus is the number and variety of inexpensive Armenian supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants .

La Crescenta is nice too. Also the homes up in the hills of Burbank are newer & upscale, but I'm not sure on the public schools.

Lots of Koreans here too now.

I watched a school group of little kids and parents (in Halloween costumes) today. We have something in every color.

I like Glendale. My only recommendation is to stay north of Colorado Blvd. You shouldn't have any problems finding a two bedroom apartment for under $2000.

I would have to ask what you mean by "good schools"? We moved here about 3 months ago (job transfer). Because of where we live our children attend Verdugo Woodlands. Everyone absolutely raves about this school and how they are one of the most prestigous schools in the area, their test scores for last year as a school were 921, and blah blah blah. If these are important to you then you may want to check out the apartments along Verdugo Rd. Norht. Me personally, I find this school rather disappointing. I guess anywhere that makes children line up on lines and stand there before school starts and are told "no running" at recess....that's a little odd to me. Go to greatschools.com to check out school reviews. They have maps of where they are located and base your search on that.
