How is Tarzana, specifically Melody Acres as far as a family friendly neighborhood. Also, what is the elementary school zoned for that area? I think the HS is Taft, middle El Portola?

Stay out of LA, it's a big traffic snarled ghetto. Mayor Vivamexico has just about bankrupt the place and the city council likes to do really stupid crap like boycotting Arizona. Now Arizona needs to cut off about 30% of thier electrical power and some of thier water. LA is a pit. It is Mexico City II and it is getting worse. Way too many on welfare, gang and freeway shootings daily and taxes will be rising. Schools are generally jubk. Most of the SF Valley is ghetto too or will be shortly overrun. I moved out and never looked back.

Sounds just like L.A. If you think Portland has problems, you aren't really prepared for what L.A. has to offer.

Encino and Tarzana are nice neighborhoods but being in LAUSD disqualifies them from being family friendly.

Encino and Tarzana are quite dated. It goes from very posh to run down rather quickly. Check school quality too. You'll find it varies greatly. Not a lot of young families.
