what are the best outlet stores in the San Diego area or Los Angeles area? Any recommendations would be very helpful!

Don't buy some cheap Chinese crap that will sag and fall apart within a few years. You want a quality American piece made in North Carolina that will last a lifetime if properly cared for. my favorite brands are Leathercraft, Hancock and Moore, Bradington and Young, and Taylor King.

With each of these you find an authorized retailer, go to their store and pick out the model and fabric/leather you like, then order and wait patiently for delivery.

None of these brands have anything "modern." They offer traditional furniture.

Blueprint is pretty popular in the LA region. They have a Warehouse sale twice a year with decent value. Urban Home is also on the affordable end as well as CB2

Bedfellows on Ventura Blvd is decent. Design Within Reach is pretty good, but it is quite expensive. Not sure why they named it that.

CB2 is basically Ikea with a 30% price increase and hipster showroom.
