Generally speaking the coastal areas of So.Calif. are all nice (and expensive compared to more inland locations).

Coastal parts of LA County for you to consider:
-Santa Monica
-Marina Del Rey
-Manhattan Beach
-Redondo Beach
-Hermosa Beach

All nice areas but NONE of them are cheap.

Agreed. The beach areas are very expensive. Are you open to the idea of roommates? If so, check out Craigs list and/or the Recycler.

Do you have a job? Are you an aspring actor/singer/dancer/filmmaker? Why do you want to move to LA? A change of scenery? Just because?

Check out SoCal35's recommendations. There are other areas close to the beach without you needing to pay for such overpriced rentals. For example, I live in West LA and the beach is just a few miles away. Torrance is just a couple miles from Redondo. My sister lives there and she loves it.
