It's not unheard of for us to go through a mild summer (by US standards it's already mild) every 5 or so years. One year that sticks out in my mind like this year was back in the early 90's. I think it was either the summer of 1991 or 1992. There has been other years as well, but this one particular was cool through out the season like what we are experiencing now.
You may be correct that there have been cool summers in California in the past but not like this summer. Just google the subject and read all the reports including agricultural concerns [ie. rice harvest is way behind schedule]. All along the Southern California coast, temps have been at record levels:

Uh.. no, a 3 bedroom house with 2 other room mates. I had the medium sized room, we priced them according to size of the rooms. One room mate has a super small bedroom for $475/month and another room mate has the biggest room and pays $600/month.

I have a video of it on my blog from about 2 weeks ago... check it out:

ok, originally you led everyone to believe you got this great deal in the Atwater district, now you are sharing the correct information: you have 2 room mates. That makes everything a little different.

That format looks like you shot it with a spy camera mounted inside a briefcase.

So your house is actually $525 + $475 + $600 = $1,600 per month. That's kind of different than $525 per month.

Most people have roommates? That's news to me. In fact I don't even know anybody who has a roommate unless you are referring to married couples those who are cohabiting. I've never had a roommate in my entire life except when cohabiting with a girlfriend.

Maybe Los Angeles is so expensive that people of modest means can afford to live here only if they throw in with a few other people of similar means.

To the OP, I checked out not only your house tour and that blog but the rest of your blog posts as well. I commend you for having the courage to move all the way out here from Minneapolis! I hope you won't get too homesick, and it's nice to read your first impressions of L.A. I've lived here all of my life so it's nice to get the perspective from a new resident.

OP, if your anything like me and HATE winter, you will be very please when your pals back in MN lose another 5 months of their lives due to snow, ice and all that bs. It's nice in mid january to ride your bicycle. To take a walk. To do the simple things that many in CA take for granted when us in less fortunate states are experiencing a real winter.
