East LA as in the region, not the community

I have lived in El Monte my whole life. I have never had a problem. knock on wood! We have never been robbed or raised any thugs or gang members. I feel comfortable walking my dog at night. I think the people that put down our city for being Ghetto should look in there backyards first. My family goes way back to the early 1900's and I am proud to say that.

I have family members that live on Elliott. It's a fairly busy street with mostly hispanics living there. A mix of condos and SFR are on the street; never had a problem with safety although the neighbors do tend to play their Mariachi music at all times of the day.

//www.city-data.com/forum/los-a...+neighborhoods

Some people tend on stereotyping Hispanic neighborhoods as ghetto--check out the above thread.

What is more amazing is that I bet that most of the people that criticize these neighborhoods can not even afford a house in it.

you signed a contract and you aren't sure of the exact address? How can it not show up on the google map unless it isn't really in El Monte? I am a little confused.

But it has always been considered an extention of East Los Angeles: plus I don't think it is anywhere near 15 miles from East L.A. Of course maybe you consider East L.A. by different boundries than others.

I've lived in El Monte for over thirty years. I've never had a problem with crime of any kind, walk on the street alone at night, and have never even felt nervous going to the ATM after dark.

There has been an increase in the number of sirens lately, but who's to know whether that's due to crimes being committed or thug cops throwing their weight around?

No one I know here has ever been robbed or even threatened with violence. It's a very low key city where people mind their own business. I like it here, even if I hardly ever see another white person. ;o)
