I think $400 is at the lower end of sanity, but if they pay for your cable, gym, pool, and clubhouse, and security, then maybe... just maybe $400 is okay.

Anything above that is getting pretty insane.

downtown is it, and has been for a while now. prices are still supposed to drop [minimally] once all the gov't subsidies end. but who knows, higher end prices didnt see as much of a drop as did mid and lower end areas. downtown is not higher end. (some buildings yes)

i would move to DTLA in a flash. based on preference i would look in the northern/older section. i would steer clear of the staples area, mostly because i dont like the buildings too much, but also due to all the sports hoopla that occurs every so often. its also a bit more sanitized. having seen DTLA go from good, to bad to worse and back, i prefer the more low key, gritty side.

would i buy? not until having lived in the area for about a year, visited other folks in the area and talked to them about their DTLA experiences.
