I am a 25 year old single male.I have a great job and apartment in Montreal.. almost done paying off my car (like 3 months left) I only lived here for 1 year. I find it very hard to make friends and connect with people as I don't know French and unsure if I want to settle in a party-laden drug infested place like Montreal.

Im debating selling my other car and stop buying anything big. Save for the next 2-3 years, like 20k... and start looking for jobs in socal, probably once the economy rebounds

im gonna be going down there for the christmas holidays to feel out the place and see if it lives up to the hype

What i really want to know from people is does the architecture field show any signs of recovery in the next 2-3 years

Architechture field would be somewhat connected to the building industry wouldn't you say? At this time very little building is going on although their are some large projects that were either funded a long time ago or are part of regulation bound building. In California Hospitals have a requirement to rebuild to meet earthquake standards. We are in that current situtation where I work. By the end of the year we will be starting on a $325million replacement hospital. Their again the Los Angeles Unified School District sure likes to build new schools. They spent over $1billion on just 3 schools durring the last few years. They are beautifull schools that I am sure the students of LAUSD will put take real good care of. LOL Other projects have to do with buildings owned by international companies. Many times in those cases they use their own people. You don't speak Korean do you? LOL

I couldn't tell you what things will be like in 2-3 years. Some people say that things are getting better and some say that things will continue getting worse. My best guess is to make contacts over the next couple years and go from there.

Obviously, the ones whom have a marginal idea what the economy may do aren't talking, those who talk don't know.

NOBODY knows what the economy will do!

Montreal is a cool city. Why are you coming to LA?

Most cities have different neighborhoods. Instead of moving to another country, you could probably solve your problems by moving six blocks.

If you're seriously considering California within a few years, we'll probably know within a year or two whether the state is going to continue to suffer from dramatic budget issues for the next decade or if the legislature will grow big enough cajones to actually deal with fiscal issues to resolve them permanently. IMHO, that would be the biggest issue for me moving to a different country, as the health of the state is definitely in jeopardy and no one is sure where it will go.
