Hello all,

Firstly, I'd like to say that I've been digging through the forums, and I haven't found a direct answer to my question, but I do apologize if I'm being redundant!

I recently got a job in Torrance and am looking for a place to live. I'll be living with my boyfriend, and we're interested in Los Feliz, Echo Park, and Silverlake from everything that I read online. I know that this would be a ridiculous commute... But would it be feasible? Or alternately, are there any other neighborhoods with an arty vibe? I would like to be near restaurants/some nightlife and not have to drive EVERYWHERE. Is this even possible further south, or just wishful thinking?

Thanks a million!

Try belmont shore. Better commute to Torrance than los feliz I would think.

Depending on your budget, Manhattan or Hermosa beach may be better options for you.

For a younger crowd also check out the south bay cities of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach. Not cheap (but neither are the other towns mentioned in this thread.)

What is your budget?

If you want arty & hipster, definitely try Downtown LA or Chinatown. From there you can hop on the 110 and slog your way south to Torrance. It's probably 40 to 50 min 1-way in normal rush-hour traffic, which is an avg commute by LA standards.

near downtown could be an option if your office is near the 110 freeway. however, much of torrance does not have easy freeway access, which could make the commute that much more painful. it isn't exactly artsy, but the coastal south bay very much has the beach village vibe and many parts areas have walkable areas with lots of shops and resaurants.

With a job in Torrance, I would try to live in the South Bay rather than Los Felix\ Silver Lake, etc. The commute could be horrible since the Harbor\ 110 freeway is often quite busy unless you car pool and use the upper level commuter lanes. Redondo, Hermosa & Manhattan beaches are really nice; also Palos Verdes and San Pedro. Or Long Beach is another option.

Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach, for a bit more of a commute try Belmont Shore or Naples
