As much as this would cause some people to shake their heads in disbelief, I have to tell it like it is. I know that this is an old thread but the OP is partially right. Los Angeles is a great place if you are rich or upper middle class. But if you are a person earning an average salary, Los Angeles is not a good place especially for raising kids. I tried to give this city its fair share of credit and I at least tried to be open minded but I now realize that this place is not what it used to be when I first came here back in 1983. In 1983, Los Angeles was a much better place. An average person could afford the rents easily back then but now, this city is only for the rich and upper middle class people. I wouldn't recommend anyone to move here unless you can securely earn $100,000+ a year. New York is way better than here, that's what I think. Los Angeles sucks in a lot of ways. I have to be truthful and tell it for what it is.
