OP here.

Just thought I would bump this thread and again request some legitimate information about any kind of pornography industry existing in the SF Valley at all....and if there are no entry level positions, that means there is no industry anymore.

Here is what wiki says....notice all the "citations needed".
Quote:
The Valley became the pioneering region for producing adult films in the 1970s and since then has been home to a multi-billion dollar pornography industry, earning the monikers "Porn Valley", "San Pornando Valley", or "Silicone Valley"—a play on Silicon Valley with silicone breast implants. The leading trade paper for the industry, AVN Magazine, is based in the Northwest Valley, as are a majority of the nation's adult video and magazine distributors.[citation needed] According to the HBO series Porn Valley, nearly 90% of all legally distributed pornographic films made in the United States are either filmed in or produced by studios based in the San Fernando Valley.[citation needed] Most studios are based in Chatsworth, Van Nuys, and Canoga Park.[citation needed]

Why is it okay for these men and women to risk their lives for complete strangers, but not okay for those in the porn industry to make the same choice? You may not like porn, you may not agree with it, and you might even feel in some way threatened by or jealous of the people who work in porn, but that is your hang-up to deal with and shouldn't lead to such unfair judgements of people you don't know. I've heard of porn actors/actresses using their money to help a loved one go through cancer treatments or to put their children through better schools. Some have used their earnings to put themselves through school. Some have used their money to pay off debts. Not all of them squander their money on drugs.

I admire them for supporting themselves and their families instead of sitting on their asses and expecting the tax payer to support them.

Their bodies, their choices.
I don't give a rat's @ss about "risking your life" for a job. If you choose to do porn for a living you have serious mental issues or absolutely nothing of value to offer society. Others are victims. That's my take on it. If you want to tell yourself I'm "jealous" that sort of proves my point. Sorry.

Again, you make some pretty serious allegations against people based on nothing other than their profession. Some mental health professionals could make a good argument that people like yourself who have such negative impressions about others based only on their profession might be suffering from some sort of mental or emotional dysfunction which prevents rational thinking.

I think that anyone who judges others so harshly without knowing anything about them or their lives is suffering from a mental defect and that their negative and totally uninformed rants offer nothing of value to a reasonable, rational and mature discussion. I also know that those who suffer from religious mania, sexual dysfunction, poor body image or a serious lack of self-esteem are also highly prone to making unfair and cruel judgements against others based on a twisted, immature or irrational belief system.

In YOUR opinion pornography, and probably other aspects of the sex industry offer nothing of value to society. However, those of us with a more mature and rational outlook know that the sex industry and those who work in it do indeed offer something of value to society. For couples suffering from some forms of sexual dysfunction pornography serves as a form of therapy. It can serve the same purpose for those who are physically disabled and unable to seek a normal sexual relationship with another. For shut-ins and the incredibly shy or introverted it offers a way to obtain sexual release which they would otherwise find difficult to obtain. Then there are those people who society judges as not attractive, and so have only prostitutes or pornography to turn to as an outlet for sexual fulfillment. Some people have spouses/partners who are suffering from a dibilitating illness which disallows or discourages sexual contact, and in many cases the ill spouse/partner recognizes that their healthy spouse/partner needs some form of sexual outlet.

Of course, some of us just really enjoy watching porn with our spouse/partner to add a little extra spice to the usual bag of tricks. You'd probably be surprised to learn just how many marriages or relationships these porn actors/actresses have helped to save and put back on a healthy and loving track. I applaud these brave men and women for so generously sharing their talents, skills and bodies with the rest of us

Ahh...umm...brave? If you've known a reasonable number of folks in the biz, "brave" may not be the most appropriate adjective to describe them. Many describe a desperate situation they've gotten themselves into, controlled by a local pseudo-mafia/drug operation, and have little choice but to continue doing something they've long tired of, not in the interest of building up a nest egg, but to attempt to keep up with a growing debt, and/or avoid negative repercussions of trying to opt out.
Living amongst such will open your eyes.

Yes, I'm sure you are right in the fact that some do get stuck in the business due to desperation, drug addiction or control by an organized crime outfit. But then again, the same could be said of nearly any occupation where one goes in to it as a "temporary" measure and then end up stuck in it for years.

My comments are directed towards those who see it as a legitimate business enterprise and go in to it because this is how they WANT to make money. Over the last 10 or 15 years the industry has seen more legitimate, non-crime connected porn hitting the market, with women becoming more involved as producers.

Any industry is going to have their "rogue" or criminal elements, from police officers to CEOs. Sexual pressure by bosses in the workplace is still an ongoing concern, where women, and even men, are harassed into a sexual relationship in order to retain their job, earn a raise or obtain a promotion. Yes, there are laws governing sexual harassment, but how many are willing to report and then carry through, knowing full well that getting another job is going to be very difficult? Mainstream business can be just as dirty as the porn industry.

Wow! Certainly knocks down the narrow-minded belief held by some that all porn stars must be "retarded," "have serious mental issues," be "too dumb" to do anything else, are "brain dead" or provide "nothing of value to society."

Not to me it doesn't. Drugs, alcohol, rotting brains, abuse, mental illness, really low self estem, maybe they owe something to the wrong people? You can't legitimize it, sorry. Have you every heard things like "too bad, they had so much potential"? Yea, you just showed where that came from.

If you want to F*** on film go ahead. But don't try to convince me there isn't something wrong with you.

Actually, it isn't something I would consider doing for a living, but considering that I am a fairly well-rounded and normal grandmother if I DID decide to go into this line of work it wouldn't suddenly alter my normalacy, my ethics or integrity. You just have a personal hang-up.

IMO, what fascinates me about choosing to become a porn actress isn't whether it's degrading, demeaning, etc. or not. That's an individual's choice. And, I'm the last guy in the world to be judgmental about social behavior.

What fascinates me is that a porn actress has to absorb society's stigma of porn actresses. IMO, I dare say 90%+ of guys watch porn. But probably less than 25% would consider marrying a porn actress. Ironically, I think this stigma works against porn actresses, and less porn actors. I don't find woman to be turned off by men w/ extensive sexual histories.

With that stigma in mind, why choose porn when other professions could pay just as much?
