No more then $800/month

Hollywood, mid wilshire, miracle mile, maybe downtown,Korea town, pretty much anywhere with good access to public transportation. idea would be somewhere that is near a metro station(red line)

How long of a stay do you need?

Not sure you're going to find $800 a month in the first areas you listed. Maybe East Hollywood area. Maybe a studio in Koreatown or Downtown if you're lucky but you'd need to find something month to month...and who knows if it includes utilities. I assume you're not factoring that because you're looking at doing the hotel/motel route.

Try craigslist I guess?

i can tell you i spent months looking for the same thing. i can categorically state that you will find that in places like the hotel alexandria, the mark twain, the mayfair etc only if you don't mind
bed bugs (HUGE PROBLEM)
poo in the hallways
your stuff getting stolen
water being turned off for hours at a time for no real reason
any and all manner of sketchy, drug addicted, mentally ill characters no longer at a safe distance through your windshield or as a passerby but as a NEIGHBOR.

i almost went the same route- but was dissuaded by the number of terrifying, almost baroque reviews i read in places like Yelp. you simply are not going to be able to find a monthly hotel for 800 dollars a month that does not wreak havoc on your body, health, and state of mind. bed bugs are nothing to fool with. they are almost impossible to eradicate in those places. never mind the safety issues, sanitary issues etc. and believe me i am not speaking from a lily-livered housewife's perspective- i have been homeless and been a wanderer for a long time and i can stomach things other people can't. so i am telling you- GO ON CRAIGSLIST. loads of people need roommates. do NOT do the weekly hotel. you can get a room or a couch in someone's living room for half that. good luck.

Thanks for the warning, where i am is basicly this. I don't want to deal with a picky roommate but i can't stand the bed bugs issue. the only other option would to rent a place, but I won't have employment when I arrive. is there any way to get an apartment without being able to verify employment & bad credit? I am constantly looking on craigslist for apartment and found some that I can afford, I am just wondering if i will be approved.

no, you would be much better off taking your chances on a roommate instead of signing a lease that you might not be able to honor. there are lots of unemployed people here. you can't just slide into town and grab a job like its fruit off the tree. with an apartment you are going to need to sign a lease, and they can do month to month but generally they will want to verify that you have employment. if you have bad credit and no employment? no way. i can tell you, no way. roommates, on the other hand, are much more negotiable. if this was something you had seriously planned on you might have wanted to clean up your credit at least before starting out. get a secured credit card- something. you didn't, so you have fewer choices based on those decisions. not trying to be highhanded with you, that's just the facts. facts i have learned myself the hard way.
go for roommates. i am living in a ridiculously phat house in los feliz- i have half the house, my own bathroom and entrance, and i pay 750. the guy is a friend of mine. come here, find roommates, make friends, and then you too can get a deal. as long as you are a decent upstanding person and clean up after yourself.
as far as bed bugs- i have had them and eradicated them. it means running everything that can be thrown into a drier thrown in for twenty minutes. sealing baseboards with tape after spraying down with rubbing alcohol. which kills them on contact. wrap your bed in plastic. seal all joints of anything wooden around you. be vigilant. i still act as if i have an infestation though it has been a couple months since i have been bitten. if i do this for the rest of my life i will never get them again to any real degree. alcohol is key. it helps that i am anal retentive and don't own alot of possessions. i pity the fool with couches and beds. i have a homemade futon that will fit in a drier.
