sucks for the plastic bag lobby! seriously though, i don't know what i'm going to use to clean my cat's litter box. i have a suspicious feeling that paper won't do the trick.

Gotta read the fine print carefully on this one.

First, it only covers unincorporated parts of LA County: Altadena, Athens, Lake Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, etc. It doesn't count for any store in an incorporated city in LA County.

Second, it doesn't cover those plastic bags that you use to put your fruit and vegetables in or your meat in when at the grocery store. At least for me, if I were in a part of the county where the law was going to go into effect, that'd be enough to cover my pet poop duties.

I've been bringing my reusable bags to Trader Joes for years so it won't bother me. But I look forward to hearing what the knuckle draggers from out-of-state have to say about this.

i actually live and shop in an unincorporated part of LA county. i also usually bring reusable bags, but usually manage to acquire a few plastic bags now and again for animal crap. now i'll have to steal veggie bags from the market, i hope i don't get caught.

I think it's awesome. I wonder about grocery delivery. I got a grocery delivery today and there were, like, 2 or 3 items in each plastic bag. Horrifying.

You will see a rise in infectious disease cases because many won't wash out those reusable bags. Maybe have a required antibacterial spray at the entrance.

Also, what's up with the 10 cent charge per paper bag that the grocer keeps.

I think LA county needs to focus on issues people gave two s*its about. Plenty of wrong in todays world to spend anytime on something so trivial.

Next thing they'll say is letting go of a balloon will be considered a felony since it could eventually pop over a bald eagles beak causing it to die.

Last time I checked, they raised the sales tax for a (short time) and that (short time) looks like it will become the new norm.

I saw the link on a twitter message from LA Times, but was too busy to click on it. Wow! Not earth shattering news, but you know what? Why is it in the movies, folks carry brown paper bags to and from the car?

Here in the UK some stores have been charging 10p extra for years, but most still have them for free. Some will give you extra points for being 'green' if you bring your own reused plastic bags.
