I suggest you still try, I know I will to get out of AZ, not sure what state, either TX or CA. I still suggest you give it a shot, I am here in AZ where it soooo bad that there are behadings, illegals run this place, we are #2 in kidnappings in the WORLD, and there are no jobs, but yet I got laid off in june, found a really good job 1 WEEK later, feel pretty safe, go shopping, travel and just bought a car. The reason I want to leave is the heat and other stuff, but dont make your decisions based on opinions or Forbes, if we did we would all be flooding Iowa and Oklahoma city.

I don't ever recall in over 20 yrs in the LA area ever seeing so many For Rent signs. You can drive down any street from the Valley to West Hollywood to the South Bay, it is all vacancy signs.
I think a lot of land lords, like home sellers, are in denial about what the market price really is. I bet if they dropped the price by $200/mo, they'd find some tenants. Instead, they sit empty, not generating any cash flow.

I agree. I never understood why someone wouldn't lower the rent to fill a unit. Although the 40 unit building I mentioned did reduce units by $100 and they still sit vacant.

Marilyn's posts, though deeply depressing and dark, have truth in them and that is a sad fact about the job market in CA and perhaps in the entire Stateside. However, this might be a fact, Angel, you are in a field which would require you to be educated, organized, hardworking and aggressive (not arrogant). If you indeed possessed all these virtues, you probably would not be hear asking for advice or at least not arguing with those who were providing feedback to you, am I wrong? I do not mean to be rude or offensive but hear me out, in this current -sucky as hell- job market and economy that will not likely to be getting any better for at least another year or two (perhaps being a bit optimistic?), you want to find a job remotely when thousands of locals have failed to do so? You might be educated, so are thousands of others. You might be very beautiful (OMFG how does that help in your field anyhow?), so are thousands of other job seekers. After all this is So Cal, even the truly ugly ones will get their ******* fix, bellies tucked, hair and make-up and done and will give you a run for your money, so the million dollar question of my long, preachy post would be; what the hell sets you apart from all others competing for the same job(s)?

Stage 1:
Getting your resume read!
Good luck with that unless you have amazingly, relevant skills displayed more beautifully (than you are) on your resume and if by some luck your resume gets viewed and picked by a qualified person and we all know how most of those doing the job screening are, for lack of a better word, despicable at their job which brings the question, what kind of company would hire such personnel?
Alternative? You need to have the right connections as Marilyn mentioned to get ahead of the rest.

Stage 2:
Phone interview(s)!
You have to do really well on the phone interview otherwise they will never get to see how beautiful you are unless you got some sick connections.

Stage 3:
In-person interview and getting the job. You made it thus far, chances are, you have some redeeming qualities they liked so far but there are still others you are being compared against. What will set you apart in the final interview and their hiring decision IF you do not have them connections?

Social networking is even more important in this godawful job market. Make friends and connections with people in the right circles. Even on C-D, someone in your field who might lend you a hand, could be reading your posts. Saying you are educated is a plus, saying you are beautiful than 90% of other women (without seeing all 100%) is not, it further more comes of as you are either full of yourself or silly.

If you are that good-looking, then perhaps you should consider and look into modeling or acting......or worst case scenario, what Marilyn joked (or didn't joke) about. I am willing to be your customer if you promise to give C-D regulars a discount!

You might have gotten mad or started to cry after reading my posts and allow your make-up to run down and mess up your beauty. If either case is true, then you should consider waiting until job market gets much better because this town will eat you up and spit you out if you cannot keep it cool when someone is mean to you for whatever reason.

Believe me I was only trying to help you.

All crazy talk aside, it is your life, even what most everyone said is sadly true, do not be discouraged or deterred so easily, especially in this town. Be confident, positive and sincere.

Good luck!

to all people inquiring here what the hell sets me apart from millions of others seeking jobs?

well, in addition to my masters degree in advertising and communications and ongoing law degree, being of euro background, i speak SEVERAL european languages FLUENTLY (no spanish though, and this sucks for LA i know). and as far as looks goes, I am an agency signed fashion model and an ex beauty queen, so not to be arrogant but my attractiveness is somewhat of a fact. I dont have rich parents/sponsors/connections to support me and am not interested in modeling/entertainment industry as my MAIN source of income, although occasional paycheck is nice and I never refused it.I know this industry all too well and its too unstable and I dont want to sometimes have to compromise my values. I am in my mid-twenties. I would ask everyone to leave their emotions aside for a moment and just speak from a rationalistic point of view: is there any way I can apply (IF AT ALL!!!) any of these attributes in some sort of position/job/career (in LA/OC) where people like me could be in demand. Nothing is beneath me if it would allow me to pay my bills and be independent. But I do hope everyone stays civilised and there would be no comments about becoming an "escort". I did not study for years to be something like that or to have to concentrate on modeling/acting.

wow. so i had sat down and written, in the direst language, all the reasons why you shouldn't move to los angeles. you would, right now, be better off moving to detroit. i have been unemployed for TWO YEARS, and people with master's degrees and much more education and a MUCH better attitude than yours are sitting right now at home, sending out resumes that will never get answered.

but that isn't the only reason you shouldn't move here. let me add this- we already have a massive metric ton of entitled, spoiled, arrogant princesses eating up all the oxygen. we need more Barbies like we need a bullet in the face. Don't move here, unless you plan on working in porno. your lack of humility is kind of making me throw up in my mouth right now. stay home. you wouldn't have the guts to make it on your own in this city.

For what its worth, i know many people with masters degrees in both finance, business AND advertising/communications, who cannot find jobs. The "qualifications" you mention here bring very little to the table in an area with TONS of beautiful, smart and educated men and women.

Advertising is extremely tough to break into in LA. I know 4 people who passed the CA bar a few weeks ago, and 2 of them cannot find "good" legal jobs. I know SEVERAL people with recent MBAs that cannot get "mba level" jobs. All of us run in very social circles, with very good family ties to business. Your prior mentions of social standing won't help in LA either, since almost EVERYONE living in West LA has a parent thats a lawyer, banker, producer, etc etc etc.

Now, the language qualifications, that actually does bring something to the table.

Porno or escort service work will be your quickest and easiest options.

Yes, it will. She'll be able to communicate with men of various backgrounds during her escort rounds.
