I will be working in Ventura County, I like to find out what are my options with area's NOT in VC but in LA so I can be closer to a more cosmo night life .... I'm in my 30s org from NYC an living in Lake Tahoe, very hip and groovy all around...... My job is sales and I will be working mainly in VC but, I noticed the rents in VC are much higher then Encino VN and was wondering what info you can provide with these areas and if any others you may suggest. I like to keep my rent low to save for a purchase. I DO NOT want a share since i am a very social person and like my privacy. My hours don't jive with most. thanks for your help

Van Nuys should be cheaper than Encino. They are pretty much adjacent also consider Sherman Oaks. Encino and Sherman Oaks are nicer than Van Nuys, Van Nuys does have some crime. All three are near Ventura Blvd which has a lot of restaurants and stores. But if you're more of a nightlife/social person consider Studio City further east. Someone else can fill in with more detail.

Cosmo nightlife is not going to be found in too many places in Ventura or the San Fernando Valley (with Studio City coming the closest to a nightlife resembling the choices in LA proper).

I agree with Disgruntled that some good areas for someone single in their 30's to consider are:
Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Encino, etc.

While not as urban or "hip" as West LA or Hollywood, all of the above will certainly be more diverse and urban than Ventura County. In addition, places like Sherman Oaks and Studio City have some nightlife of their own and are close enough to get to the hot nightspots on the other side of the hill very easily (by "other side of the hill" I mean West Hollywood, Hollywood, Santa Monica, etc.).
