I am pretty new to LA and I’ve got a lady friend visiting from out of town. I want to take her to a comedy club on Thursday night, but not sure where the best spots would be…

What are the best comedy clubs for the price in the Hollywood area? We don’t really want to pay a ton of money, but definitely want to see an act that will make us laugh.

What are the best clubs for the money?

The Comedy Store, the Laugh Factory, the Ice House.

Index <---- Comedy Store

IceHouse Comedy Club

Laugh Factory - Home

You should give a call to find out when the cheapest days are to go, the open mic nights are good, may even see an up and coming new artist.

Check the LA Weekly: LA Weekly Comedy Events

I personally find the printed version to be much easier to scan (I see 37 listings and you can find it everywhere) but in addition to LuckyGem's suggestions, there are also the Uptight Citizens Brigade Theater, Bang (seems to be free on Thursdays), Second City, The Improv, etc. I don't see it listed but The Groundlings have shows (many of their alumni have gone on to SNL).

Won't work for your timeframe but the best comedy deal in L.A. might be the occasional KPCC's Patt Morrison's Comedy Congress live tapings. It's at their Crawford Family Forum in Pasadena, which has no club ambiance, but it's free with free beer, wine and finger sandwiches. It's political comedy with a definite leftward slant, so it might not appeal to all.
