I would imagine not, but there's probably just as many as people in LA.
However, one estimate I read says that NYC, probably has 30 million rats.

I admit I saw one crossing 3rd Street, just east of Hill one late night. That sucker was big. My friend at 7th/Spring used to see them sometimes, but its been awhile.

i can't imagine los angeles having as many rats than nyc. if you've ever lived in nyc, you'll know what i mean.

the big vermin problem in the city of los angeles seems to be ants from what i've seen and heard (not sure about the suburbs). that said, it's nowhere near as disgusting as the roaches, rats, and other vermin in nyc's buildings, parks, and subway stations.

speaking of subways, nyc rats always seemed to be especially common in and around subway stations and older parts of the city in general. you remember that kfc/taco bell in nyc that got infested with rats a few years back? that restaurant was located just steps from the entrance to a major subway stop (west 4th street station). no surprise, then, that the building immediately next to the station (and above the tracks) had a major rodent problem:

Los Angeles, almost has as much water as NYC around it, however, since it's a lot more spread out and with more open spaces, I would think, that Chicago, is probably for sure, closer to NYC rat problems, then LA.

I haven't heard of too many rat problems in Chicago. Chicago is still pretty spread out by NYC standards, plus the buildings are further spaced apart. Outside of downtown Chicago, the city is mostly middle density and even suburban in the far SW and NW sides. Plus in Chicago most people outside of downtown have garages and the garbage isn't piled on the street.

The rats in LA are the people who used to live in NY.

"Eh, you talkin to me?"

Many of the coastal areas have roof rat problems, particularly areas dense with trees. This is a big issue in places like Laguna Beach, because the trees abut the homes. Some of the plants maintained by CalTrans on the roadside drew rats as well, but they have been removing those over the years

I used to live in an orange/avocado grove. When I was a kid I'd entertain myself at night by sitting in a tall tree and shooting roof rats as they scampered across the roof of the main house. I used .22 dust shot rounds, so my family members inside weren't in any danger.

the guy in the second photo shares a disturbing resemblance with my childhood friend's uncle from staten island, right down to the cheesy leisure suit.
