Anyone know what the commutes would be like? Considering job offer in Northridge and someone here suggested living in Calabasas or Woodland Hills...and when I do rental searches, some actually bring up Malibu. So, loving water the way I do...just wondering if this would be as bad a commute as another possibility I posted on earlier which was Santa Monica to Northridge? (maybe I should just forget about living close to the water--I really don't want a nightmarish commute). Thanks.

ffs, Santa Monica to Northridge is NOT nightmarish. Northridge to Santa Monica, yes, but not the other way around. anyone that says otherwise has probably never driven it.

Malibu to Northridge? It should take about half an hour, maybe a little more. You can go north to Calabasas and then get on the 101. I think it pretty much deserted there. When you get off the freeway, you'll be driving the "wrong" way because many people commute from Northridge to LA and not vice versa.

Sounds kind of optimistic especially for rush hour, even considering it he is going in the good direction. The 101 from Las Virgenes into the Valley really slows up after 7AM, especially when the sun is blinding everyone. I'd bet it's an hour if he starts work at eight in the morning. But, the drive from Malibu into Calabasas is pretty. And he'd have a few alternatives if there's a crash (Topanga instead of Malibu Canyon, Mulholland instead of Las Virgenes, Valley Circle north instead of 101 to Tampa, etc.)
