Okay, so I have to ask this, maybe it's a combination of venting and just plain disbelief...but coming from the Midwest...really?

Why are there so many people without headlights on at night? I am not talking just after sundown, but in the dark...real dark...adverse weather...

I'm lost...

I will be honest and state that I've seen this all over the Western Half of the US...especially noted in Albuquerque, Denver, and Santa Fe, LA, Vegas...

What's the deal? Can you not see your dash is not lit up?
Or is my truck too old and now the dashes light up without headlamps on...

Whatever happened to automatic headlights...I am quite sure they were designed for Californians...ok...I'll be nice...

I'm all ears? Please explain this phenomenon...

I don't know, I see it quite a bit, too.

My headlights come on automatically. And the dash lights up automatically when necessary or when I turn my fog lights on.

I just think it's the darndest thing...I guess if you were from where I am (You might be) it may be a weirder thing to you...

I just think it's funny...and it happens all the time. Best of all when you flash your lights at them, which I was told not to do out here, they just stare at you like an idiot...you'd think they might at least take a stock...

"Why is he flashing me (lights)?" hmmm

Seatbelt...check
Screw to keep my head on...check

OH LOOK! I got a text...
And a safe driving tip from my insurance company!

I see it on occasion, and assumed it was some retarded, uninformed attempt to save money/gas by not burning their lights.

I drive a 14 year old car and my head and dashlamps take care of themselves night or day as soon as I release the parking brake.

I drive with my lights on 100% of the time - and they are not automatic..

I don't seem to see too many people driving without their headlights on.

Side note: Does it seem GM DRLs have a lot lights out? Very often I see a GM with only one DRL on.

I rarely ever see that. Maybe it's because of the area I live in? I don't know.

Pretty dumb though.

That is when my dashboard lights won't come on at night - when my emergency brake is on. It'll beep, too.

Ghostgecko-
I don't know, I have flashed my lights when I have seen someone driving at night with no headlights (if I remember) and I've seen others doing it.

I've never really understood this b/c to be able to see what speed I'm going and any of the other dash details, I need to have my lights on. I know I've forgotten on rare occasions, but the first time I go to check my speed and realize I can't see, it registers that I've left my lights off. My lights are automatic now so I don't even go that far, but really how do you function with low/no lights. Its craziness.

If anything I see a lot of burned out headlights. I very rarely see a person driving without them on at night. It's actually a serious infraction - $300 and a point on your driving record unless you have traffic school. I once was pulled over for this infraction when I got a new car and didn't know how to work the lights. Additionally, it's a common way to get pulled over and accused of DUI.

So, OP, realize people are getting punished pretty severely if they pass by a cop.

It's stealth mode. If they can't see you they can't hit you, and the police can't give you a ticket. After all, whaddya think that cops have radar or infrared?

Don'cha love it when people have one burned out headlight so they turn on their brights so they can see? Nevermind if they blind you and you can't see...

Here in Los Angeles after dark you're lucky if the oncoming driver isn't compromised by alcohol or illegal drugs. Oops, I should have posted this in C-D's illegal drug forum section...

I'll have to take driving school some time so that I can legally drive without my headlights at night.
