Hi,

So I've been offered a job in Santa Monica from May - August and I've been looking for places to live. I just found a lovely place but it is in Eastern Malibu. I've been trying to figure out what the commute time would be during the mornings to get to work (I have to be at work for 8 45am). Could anyone tell me how long the commute would be from Malibu to Santa Monica in the mornings? And approx what time I would have to leave to get to work for 8:45am?

Would this be too long to commute with morning rush hour traffic? Is it worth it?

malibu has 20 something miles of coastline, so eastern malibu could mean a rather large area. regardless, traffic along pch is pretty bad, especially once you get past sunset blvd.

It really depends where you are living in Malibu. PCH can feel like a parking lot during rush hour so I would expect the commute to be around 45 minutes at least. I've found that traffic is generally better if you leave before 8am, but there are no guarantees.

Also, do you know which part of Santa Monica you will be working?

What a commute either way, I mean that is some beautifull land around there. And the Ocean view isn't too bad either. LOL

Since PCH isn't instrumented, we can't see PCH traffic on Sigalert.
Best bet is to check google maps traffic for PCH during your expected commute times. Google Maps traffic uses crowdsourcing GPS feedback from cell phones to provided estimated traffic speeds. (Doesn't work well in higher pedestrian areas because the processor can't differentiate between someone in a car and someone walking.)
