Hello everyone, I am a newbie. I am on the east coast but I want to return to CA. I was in San Diego for about eight years and then moved to the east coast on a whim. After twelve years here I’m sick of the ice and snow and getting snowed in and want to move to a warm climate. I have friends in San Diego and they love me and we had such good times there (some of the BEST memories in my life!!). My husband (I got married after I moved to the east coast) hates LA (crowds and Mexicans) and so I was thinking maybe Burbank or even San Diego (I like screenwriting but I have absolutely no illusions that CA will help me with that. In fact I'm pretty sure that I'll retire a secretary). So, not sure what to do. I saw American History X and it scared the hell out of me since I'm Asian. Looks like neo nazism is on the rise in CA. My husband has been yelling at me about MS13 which is some scary racist gang in CA. He thinks I am completely stupid for wanting to move to CA. He may have a point. But I don’t like FL. NM is horribly hot in summer and so’s AZ. I’m not getting younger, and I need to move to a warm climate while I’m still relatively young. I mean, if moving sucks, it will be ten times worse when I’m old. Any thoughts?

Theres racism everywhere. To make a choice on where to move based on things like that is absolutely rediculous.

There is racism everywhere, and there is tolerance everywhere.

Hi Tex
thanks for the cool note. I appreciate it. I guess you're right, there's racism all over and it's kind of nutty making a decision based on that.

Hey there Brin

Just to clarify-I love all folks. heck if there were Martians there I'd welcome them too. the more diverse the better.
but my husband has different ideas. I am not sure how to convince him to move to LA. maybe he'll stay on the east coast.
thanks

If your husband hates Mexicans, it might be somewhat enlightening to find out how he really feels about Asians.

It might not worth it to try to convince him to move to L.A. (or anywhere else outside of his "comfort zone").

It sounds like you want to move but it's your husband that's making you stay.

Your husband is right though...There's only roaming gangs of Neo-Nazis and members of the Mexican Mafia, traversing the streets of L.A. They hold their battles to the death usually on Thursdays and whoever survives gets to have In-and-Out for dinner.

too funny!
it's true I'd be outta here if not for my husband. I had the best time in San Diego. I had awesome friends and everyone just got along so well! and I didn't even have a car for the first four years, I took the bus everywhere!!-which no one could believe. but I guess it's hard to be unhappy when it's always sunny and 75 degrees!! another thing I remember was I never saw anyone with a weight problem there. Everyone was gorgeous. I don't even remember anyone unhappy there. the clubs were fabulous. I can't wait to go back.

wow. that's something for me to think about. I never really thought about it that way. I've been married to him twelve years and I support him now. he does have some well-defined comfort zones and a very short fuse.
