I don't like the food. This TV only has 20 channels. This TV is too small. I want a private room. How come my baby daddy can't sleep in the room with me? (Semi private room with another mother.) (Saying that most of our OB rooms now are private.) and the one I like specifically toward family and friends of the patient, "You can't tell me what to do this is public property." Turns out I can tell them what to do as this hospital that i work for is private property. You follow my rules or i kick you out. LOL

A few weeks ago I was sitting in a restaurant and the daughter of the waitress came in. She was about 15yrs old and had her brand new baby with her to show off to everyone.

Apparently there were some problems with the baby being premature. She was in the hospital for a few weeks. Anyway I overheard the waitress tell another table "and we left with tons of diapers and supplies, everything was free".

Ummmm...no it was not free, the taxpayer picked up the bill. And when I say 15yrs old, I'm being kind, she looked very young. Might even be 13 or 14.

It was kind of jaw dropping to see. The new mother was very childlike.

I also wonder what will happen when the novelty of having a baby wears off.

I can tell you what happens: my niece was married for about 6 weeks, many years ago and of course got pregnant. She was 19 when Amy was born and yes, they lived in Ca. Of course the marriage ended way before the baby was born and dad was never in the picture. Even though niece lived with mom and dad she was able to get food stamps and elegible for wink. Long story short, after a few years she got tired of being a mommy, my sister and brother in law who werre not the ideal parents to begin with raised Amy. By the time she was 15 she was a mommy and by the time she was 22 she was a mommy 4 times.

Another situation: I overheard a conversation while in a doctors office in NM. 2 teen moms were talking, one with 2 kids. She was telling the other young girl about attending community college (I give her credit) and about the child care program. The second young girl said: I know all about it, I could even get my GED and then take classes but I would have to leave my 9 month old baby in a child care center and I just don't want to do that. I get WINK, food stamps, medicaid and cen live with my parents, why would I want to go back to school and leave him with someone else?

Wink? What is that some kind of brain tic you small-minded, mean-spirited people have? Sometimes this forum seems like a bunch of gossiping cows at a coffee klatch

When you're getting a handout you don't decide to pick up and move to one of the most expensive parts of the country.

Many working people and people who through no fault of their own who got laid off have had to leave CA because of the high cost of living.

And Jerry Brown is cutting left and right. They don't want more people coming into CA who can't pay their own freight.
The reality is those with vouchers often have options not available to others.

Section 8 Vouchers are portable without restriction after the first year.

A person could live in Beverly Hills if they find a unit that falls within the program guidelines.

The amount of assistance available also varies... it is higher in high cost areas and lower in lower cost areas.

Voucher Portability is something the Feds implemented to give those on assistance the ability to move without fear of loosing the Federal Dollars they qualified for.

One of my jobs is to show up when we have a code at the hospital. For example code blue is when someone is having trouble breathing or their heart has stopped. During one code blue to the NeoNatal intensive Care Unit (NICU) a young teen mom showed up at the door with 5 of her little friends all of them smiling and happy to be there while we were in the middle of this code. A basinet with a very small premature baby was having problems and we litteraly had a team of 12 people in the room for that baby working away. A nurse answered the door and the new mom, all in smiles and giggling, told her she was here to show her new baby to her friends. The nurse said not now, we are working on your baby. You could see the team of doctors, nurses, respiratory Therapist, and others in the room from the door. Obvioiusly this baby was having a bad day.

Now most parents would have been upset that their baby was in the NICU especially when the baby was having a code. Not this little princess. She told her friends with a smile on her face, "Did you guys see my baby? The nurse says they are working on her but we can come back later." The team of little princesses then left to do what ever little princesses do.
