Google maps says the commute would be 30 minutes to an hour, depending on where in LA I lived. However, given LA traffic, is this correct?

It totally depends where in LA. Do you have some cross streets or a neighborhood in mind?

Where in Los Angeles, where in San Pedro, and what are your work hours?

I guess you could live in San Pedro and you would be covered then. LOL Amazing how many haven't figured out all the many neighborhoods that are part of Los Angeles.
