I am planning to move from a small town in Utah to LA area this summer or fall. I am 20 and have always lived at home so this will be a big change. After I achieve residency and work for a year I would like to to to Orange Coast College located near Costa Mesa. Is this area pretty safe?

I'm coming from a town where we leave our houses unlocked all day when we are gone and never lock our vehicles so i'm not real used to the city.

Are there good housing options in this area? I would need to find one or more roomates to share an apartment.

What is minimum wage in this area? The cost of living is like 170% more here so I would think the wages would be more.

Also, if anyone else is thinking about making a similar move. Hit me up It would be nice to know someone else in the area and not be completely alone!

Thanks! Hope I don't sound too ignorant.

Costa Mesa is in Orange County. You might get more information if you make this post in the Orange County forum instead. I think it would make more sense to move to Orange County instead of LA. If you don't mind the commute, then I would consider a city in LA County closer to the border with Orange County.

Minimum wage is $8 an hour.

L.A. Crime News - Los Angeles Times is a great site for info on crime areas. Seems everything north of the city is pretty ok. I'm planning to move to the area too from an east coast version of your hometown

Good luck with the move!

Live in Orange County. Thats where Costa Mesa is (commute would be insane from LA) and it'll be less a shock, ornage county is not too far off from utah
