While purely based on personal experience so take it for what it is worth, I have found the wealthiest people I have known in places like Newport Beach, Aspen, Malibu have trust funds
from other locations. Aspen Colorado is currently considered the most expensive place in the US, but who makes money there. All are top desirable locations but finances are generally established elsewhere.readuk does make a valid point with regards to Beverly Hills when he states there are many lower end rentals in the area. Newport Coast and Holmby Hills however is the real deal..not many low end rentals and you don't purchase for anything less than a million even for a dump. That said, if you want the real deal in prime Beverly Hills...you will pay through the nose..but the money is generally not always local. Personally not to sound snobby, I had a long time girlfriend in Bev Hills and used to hang out there alot.. I wasn't overly impressed with the scene. Give me a nice place on the beach and less haughty attitude..I'm good. When I hear people brag about Beverly Hills it doesn't do a lot for me..you say prime Newport, Malibu,Corona Del Mar..I have to admit I am green with envy.

I agree. These areas are much nicer than Beverly Hills which is so overrated I can't stand it!

Don't even get me started on tick tacky Beverly Park which technically isn't even Beverly Hills, ironically. Even Pacific Palisades is nicer than Beverly Hills IMO. Give me Malibu any day.

Impossible. Those numbers are wrong. That's all there is to it. I can go ahead and make up some statistics too but what's the point.

I read a statistic that Beverly Hills is 50% renters. Although the rents are high ($1700 for one bedroom on average), like another poster said, compared to Manhattan, that's 50% lower. You don't need to make 6 figures to rent a place in BH.

How? So the BEA is wrong The IRS is wrong. Census is wrong. CapGemini Metro Wealth Index is wrong. Forbes is wrong. EVERYTHING is wrong, and you're right. Because The Hills or whatever nonsense on TV told you Beverly Hills is the richest place and LA is rich, it must be?

There are no statistics you can produce that show LA matches the levels of wealth as other metros. Or that Beverly Hills is anywhere near the richest community. It can compete on fictional tv shows, but it simply can not compete in the real world.

Notice where they're mostly in... NYC and SF, DC areas. Only 3 in the LA area. NYC area has 43 that make the list. DC, SF, Miami, Houston, all have more in the top 100 than LA. In the LA area, Hidden Hills and Rolling Hills are both richer than Beverly Hills...yes, folks, the Valley has richer neighborhoods than BH Oh the horror!

To get back on topic, I'm aware Beverly Hills in general is well off. I've never denied it, but the richness of Beverly Hills is too exaggerated.

To summarize, saying "I'm from Beverly Hills" should be no eyebrow raising than "I'm from Manhattan" "or I'm from San Francisco" or "I'm from Honolulu" or "I'm from Boston"...or "I'm from Hidden Hills" lol.

Hidden Hills is upper middle class and has like 1000 people living there. Also, it's isolated.

Manhattan it depends. (UPper east side)

San Francisco it depends. (Pacific Heights)

Honolulu? Give me a break.

OK, yeah, some people from Beverly Hills live in 1400 a month one bedrooms south of Olympic. Fine.

But saying you're from Beverly Hills generally indicates you live in a two or three story $5 million + house north of Wilshire.

Saying you're from Beverly Hills is like saying you're from the Upper East Side of Manhattan or Pacific Heights in San Francisco. Not just Manhattan or San Francisco. I believe homes in Pacific Heights are comparable to BH.

In regards to your list: Most of the neighborhoods you've listed are tiny. Like Fisher Island has a population of 467. Hidden Hills is under 2000.

Beverly Hills is more mixed yes. But it has far more people. I am sure Beverly Hills has far more zillionaires than Fisher Island and Hidden Hills put together.

That is not true...there are no commercial buildings/uses in Hidden Hills. There is a community center with a pool and tennis court. Otherwise it is all single-family residential (1-acre lot minimum and up).

Like I said over 4 years ago, most of those richest communities are tiny. Beverly Hills is a diverse city , it has some middle class and some super rich. But overall, it has far more rich than several of those small cities put together.
