Last night I went to a show at the House of Blues on Sunset. I wanted to park someplace for free from 6PM until around 11PM but most of the signs said meters are checked until 8PM and in some cases even 10PM. I drove through a residential area and they said no parking 8PM - 6AM. I finally wound up parking on La Cienega near Melrose!!

I then walked up to the place which was steeply uphill.

The House of Blues does have valet parking for $15 but I can't do that.

a parking ticket is more than $60, just pay the $15 for valet.

There's a parking lot right across the street (next to the Comedy Store) that's $10.

The parking restrictions on the Sunset Strip are ridiculous compared to the ones on Santa Monica Blvd. The gay bars on Santa Monica Blvd have lately become far more popular than the Strip, yet the meters on SMB are free after 6 pm. Also, valet parking on SMB is only $10 on the weekends and sometimes as little as 5 on weekdays. Yet the Strip continues to have 2 hour restrictions till 2 am. This is because the Strip used to be the hot place to go, now it's mostly dead.

I prefer events at House of Blues Anaheim, 4 hour free parking with validation. If you have dinner at HB before a show they give you a early start into the venue before the masses.

You can find somewhat cheaper self park lots in the area but parking is a hassle and may have something to do with declining attendance.

The Santa Monica Bl bus runs every 15 mins late into the night. Maybe you can find someplace with free parking and take the bus the rest of the way in?
