So we have heard all the prejudiced visitors and short-lived
'residents' who claim to be knowlegable, repeatedly bash
Los Angeles. Now I would like to hear from people who dont
want to leave, in spite of all the negative threads on City Data...

Sorry for the NY and Chi-Town jabbs.
I love those great cities too

Let another non-Angeleno take a stab based on my experiences.

Santa Monica
Venice
Marina del Ray
Santa Monica Mountains
Downtown skyline
Descent from and ascent into air from LAX (especially at night)
Fish tacos
Topanga Canyon Blvd. (especially coming down the hill to the PCH from Topanga)
Getty Center
The view of the westside and ocean from Getty Center
Downtown Burbank
Old Town Pasadena
Balboa Island (although that's part of Newport Beach)
In-N-Out Burger
The multiple options of airports offering flights to major cities
Random friendly conversations I've had with many-a-Southern Californians

Also...the fact that during the times I've been there the city hasn't been majorly polluted.

I love all that too!!
But what {cough} is this pollution you speak of??
...Lol Actually the AQMD has been very active lately,
trying to stimulate public awareness about air quality.
And im hoping that more people are at least giving the
ever-expanding rail system a try.

All the Raw Food/Organic restaurants. I love hiking in Topanga. I really enjoy the mountains and palm trees. This isn't something I get back at home (London). Most major bands/artists have shows in LA. I got to see Bjork, Deftones, GlassJAw, Skinny Puppy, Ice Cube and Tears For Fears are playing in September. So many great people come here! Even friends from back at home have shows in LA. It's a fun place to be.

I find a lot of the people that hate LA are struggling and take it out on the city.

Thats great! I never thought of it that way! I guess since I grew up in a tough area, besides the crowds,
I never learned to dislike the typical things some outsiders whine about. I experienced the city from the inside (South Central) out (to the outlying suburbs). I would love to move back someday. if the traffic and overcrowding gets under control. But that has no bearing on the quality of the city. It will always be like a mother to me.

There are already a whole bunch of similar threads:

One thing you love about L.A.

I Love L.A.

For all you permanent transplants, what made you "fall in love" with LA?

L.A. Love - my take on Los Angeles

I love LA and yes, I love Mexicans!!!

I love LA. Why?

Why Some Love LA

I still love L.A>

Yes indeed! Was that really necessary, in view of the gist of this thread??

I live in OC and I hate it. It's only an hour away from LA but it is a different world. I want to move to LA. I love everything about LA; I like that it's gritty and not suburban. I love the tall buildings, it's very "city-like"; I hate living in the suburbs! I love Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood and I admit the celebs too. Los Angeles is the city of dreams where people to to make it. I want to live in LA before I die. However I am stuck in OC because of a job and I don't think I can find a job in LA making what I do now, so dunno what to do. I am so miserable here! I feel alive when I drive to LA; I love the bright lights. Everything!

Well at least youre a lot closer than me ,way up here in Salinas.
Dont get me wrong. I like it here a lot. Its not glamor-exciting like big sassy L.A. but its a different kinda life here. More mellow, slower, but
not dead either. I would think that weekend drives up to L.A. would be
worth the fun as you describe it, no?
