I guess you can also ask the question where did the middle class go , they have pretty much disappeared or are struggling. Seems like you either gotta be poor (huddled up in a section 8 rental or "cheap" property) or be an upper income person that can afford a nice area. Median HOUSEHOLD income is something like $55,476 . That doesn't allow one to live in a halfway decent area in this city.

I agree that the SFV used to be overwhelmingly white going back to the mid-sixties when I used to go to various movie theatres in cluding the Americana near Van Nuys 7 Parthenia, and another movie theatre on Van Nuys Blvd. just north of Victory Blvd. on the west side of the street.

IIRC, local politicians changed the zoning laws near what had been a pristine and virbrant intersection sometime in the 1970s, and that area quickly became overrun with pawn shops, bail bonds offices, adult bookstores & the like, and whites fled westward and northward, or left the state altogether.

Interesting you mention pawn shops , the area of the valley I live in just allowed a rezone or "exemption" not sure exactly what it's called to allow a pawn shop. The area already wasn't that great but it's amazing that the city allowed that. Better to have empty storefronts than crappy businesses.

I am seriously thinking of moving out of state myself. L.A can be nice if you are in one of the few nice areas and can afford it..but otherwise you might as well be basically in another country.

I think a lot of people could benefit from moving. There are parts of the country where you can buy/rent a decent house in a nice area and it doesn't cost a fortune.

Yeah, but then you're in flyover country. Hometown Buffet, Waffle House, the roller rink and Dittoheads get old fast.

True true, but you can buy a condo in South Florida for like $50,000 and be a couple miles from the beach, and theres a lot more to do and eat versus Hometown Buffet,Waffle House. It's a big area. Their beaches are better than the ones in L.A too.

I've offered them sanctuary in my crib. It's a pretty big crib.

There are even less white people in Miami than there are in LA. But if you're comfortable with diversity, as it appears you are since you live in the valley, then have at it. Bone up on your Spanish though. Last time I was down there no one spoke a word of English.

Don't disrespect Waffle House. It's a fine establishment. Scattered, smothered and covered...
