WHAT? Tokyo is building the 2nd tallest building in the world and they get bigger earthquakes than LA!

A modern highrise building is one of the safest places to be in an earthquake.

Also, Hollywood blvd is the closest thing Los Angeles has to a times square probably.

Downtown's with historic buildings are more interesting than malls. If you want malls move to the suburbs or visit that dreadful P.O.S. called the Grove!! Sorry, just my view of it.

I don't personally understand the point of this thread, honestly.

I haven't really read through the posts, so maybe someone answered this:

But isn't one of LAs great charms is that there really isn't one great center like New York, Chicago, etc? but rather multiple smaller ones. LA is all about the experiencing the endless things to do, in all its areas.

One of the reasons why I love LA, and would like to experience actually living there )and find it so fascinating), is that it is so unique is that there is not one center that has it all. Honestly I love that.

Why would I want the central business district with all the banks, corporate headquarters, etc. in the same places where I enjoy the beach? Why not enjoy the beach in a place that is fundamentally a resorty-vacation type of town (Santa Monica), and why not enjoy nightlife in the center of the industry that creates make-believe worlds and fantasies (Hollywood & W. Hollywood)? I don't necessarily want to hang out in the same part of the city with skyscrapers and the serious business world.

Keep the nightlife centered where the entertainment and media world is centered, with only scattered skyscrapers, and the great "daylife" in a laid-back fun, coastal resort feeling town.

I'm ALL for revitalizing downtown, I am. But one of the great things I love about LA is that there are AWESOME places to hang out that are not in, and don't feel like a downtown.

It is more fun to hang out in a part of the city that

Thanks, although I was in a bit of a hurry, and didn't really proofread/edit that post. But sounds like people got the point.
