About to sign a lease for a cute cottage on Strickland Ave off N. Figueroa. It would be for a single woman with 2 kids. The neighborhood seems nice, the house is a ways up the hill from Figueroa. Safe neighborhood that is going up I hope... anyone know that section of Highland Park 90042.

Anyone know the fastest or easiest way to get to San Fernando Road at Eagle Rock Blvd from there too?

Just take Fig to York to Eagle Rock Blvd. Trip is under 5 miles...

Hey - Welcome to the neighborhood! I've lived in HP for almost 15 years now and like it a lot. The area you will be living in is pretty decent. It seems like when you go uphill a bit the neighborhood improves. I live on a small hill off of York and Avenue 52 and is quite a bit different than the area on the flat land below us.
As an FYI, one of the great features of HP is the abundance of supermarkets which causes more cometitive prices and of course variety.
The Highland 3 theaters on Figueroa are very inexpensive but be forwarned it's kinda like watching a movie in someone's living room with running conversations etc. That's why I go to the Vista Theater over in the Los Feliz/Silverlake area! To each their own....

That is right on the Eagle Rock/Highland Park, Pasadena border. It should be just fine. Troof has given you the easiest and fastest way to get to Eagle Rock Blvd and San Fernando Rd.

Hey, glad to see you made the move! I believe you will like it and the scene is ever changing in HP. If you haven't been down York yet take a look and you will see some nice cafe's going (along with the requisite tattoo parlor!) etc. Figueroa is more commercial but is ok. Check out all the different super markets in the area but be prepared to shop early for the best buys. Again, welcome to the neighborhood!
