Thank you! This is an excellent idea but we just can't afford that right now. I will just have to head to the hospital as soon as I feel something (if I do). If they try to send me home and say I'm not ready then we would probably get a hotel nearby for that night.

I would have bought a ticket if I had known, not because I am going to be there, just for the fun.

We need a Chinese bullet train. Wouldn't that be great to trade the Chinese something for that?

LOL, trade them for the dodgers, the coliseum, some land in beverly hills or bel air (after all, china has an increasing middle and upper class). Maybe trade them a little corner of Century City? Its a shame the city has so many real assets, but we can do nothing about our freeways or infrastructure.

It took an hour last night to get to dinner on pico blvd. Ughhhh Pico and Sawtelle, what a nightmare. If we had an underground expressway below the 405, it sure would transform this area.

Something underground that would cave in from an earthquake?

No thanks...I'll suffer through the traffic above ground.

Why in the world are they calling the 405 closure "Carmageddon"? What a strange name ...

A friend must go to the airport Saturday to pick someone up. Do not think that LAX will be a fun place to be this weekend. Suggested that before departing from his Orange County home that he take a couple of tranquilizers and say a little prayer.

Suggest he do what I do when someone flies into LAX... tell 'em to take a shuttle to **wherever** and he'll pick them up there.

Based on my experience as a newb in the Bay Area after the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake (e.g. Bay Bridge / the 80 out of commission for months) the media hype far exceeds what the real pain will be here.

Many people will avoid going out, some will move to mass transit and bikes. Those who do have to drive will experience something like a bad weekday commute at worst.
