Hi. I am in desperate need of help. I need to move to Los Angeles by July 1st!! Not much time I know. I will need to commute to USC and UCLA, so I am looking to live somewhere between the two. Someone recommended looking at Culver City. My boyfriend and I are moving and are looking to find a nice, pet friendly apartment, in a safe, chill, diverse (eclectic/welcoming) residential neighborhood. I am Black and my boyfriend is Middle Eastern, so we would prefer to be in an area where people would be cool with that LOL. I also heard West Hollywood is central to both schools, but from what I have seen it seems like a busy area.
We are not very familiar with LA so any advice would be great. Also we are looking for a somewhat spacious place that is under $1500. Thanks

west hollywood is definitely more 'city' and typical LA. however, culver city has a lot going on as well and will give you a relatively easy commute to both campuses. i would personally go with culver city, i think it would be a good choice for the two of you. your budget is in line with culver city, and just like most of LA, culver city is very progressive and open minded.

if you stay east of the 405 you'll be fine.

I'd say the Miracle Mile area would probably be good as well.

I'm not sure you'll find a "not busy" area between USC and UCLA.

besides Culver City/Baldwin Hills and Miracle Mile, checkout the Fairfax District. My friend's sister subletted a rly nice apartment in that area when she was at USC Law School. She said the commute was bearable... granted this was 4 or 5 yrs ago.

West Hollywood would be a much more difficult commute for both of you, I think. Anywhere on the Westside, and most places in general that you'd live within your commute radius, don't care much about race. Culver City is a nice area, friendlynpeople, good new restaurants, easy access to public transportation.

Well, exactly halfway would be around the corner of Fairfax and Pico, which is an uninteresting but basically acceptable neighborhood.

we don't seem to care about skin color here, for the most part anyway. Sure their are those that hate everywhere in places all over the world. Still I would say that most people in the LA Metro aren't going to care what color you are or if you are with another race. LOL

Can't comment on the best places to live. Your talking about a small area. UCLA and USC as far as sports teams are the closest rivalry in the nation as far as miles between the schools. Unless you are taliking walking between schools I don't see it as a big problem anywhere between the 405 and the 5. That is just me though and I am not someone that lives inside that area. I live North West in Oxnard about an hour away.
