I am looking to move to LA later in the year. I am looking at houses for rent in the Beverly Hills/Hollywood Area.... but LA Is enormous. Where are the majority of the downtown/nightlife attractions situated? I don't really want to have to drive more than 10-15 minutes, but, if possible, I would like to be relatively that distance from the beach. Hollywood/Beverly Hills is a big area of attraction for me due to my work. I guess I just don't want to be super far away from all of the night/city life....

My budget for renting is 3000-4000 per month. I don't really want to too deep in the city because I like it relatively quiet at my house, my I don't want to be so secluded that going anywhere takes forever.

Any suggestions? Specific zip codes I can look up?

maybe mid city? night life is spread out everywhere, but I think close to hollywood, mid city and downtown should give you plenty, also youll be 10-15 from the beach...on a wide open highway with no traffic! which is possible at certain hours...

It depends on your scene. There's something for everyone in most parts of LA.

Santa Monica actually has everything you need, it's become a vibrant area with a great nightlife, it fits your budget, and it's at the beach.

Hollywood and Beverly Hills don't have much that Santa Monica doesn't already have. Santa Monica has world class dining, shopping, clubs.

Upper middle class? Try Pasadena / South Pas, Miracle Mile, Glendale, Los Felix, Silver Lake.

Oh and being near downtown and the beach is impossible, as DTLA is like 15 miles inland (15 miles = at least an hour drive).

The perfect spot for you is Malibu. There's just enough to do to be interesting and the beach is right there. Plus you would have some very interesting neighbors.

You need a reality check on traffic in LA. 10-15 minutes???? And, as you said (but maybe don't truly grasp) LA is huge. The areas with a lot of night life are going to be very dense and urban. You have to go a long way to be "secluded" (or rich enough to buy a big estate).

What part of "LA" is relatively middle-upper class, (but not close to the most downtown attractions) and possibly a beach?

It is called O-r-a-n-g-e C-o-u-n-t-y.

Let the snark towards me begin!

Hancock Park; Windsor Square; west to La Cienega.
