Hi Everyone,

My company is moving my work from San Diego to very near LAX airport. I am a retired military, aerospace engineer and single. I am looking for a family style community, peaceful, and within range of using metro, rail and tram from LAX (Green Line). Any ideas?

Thanks,

S

There aren't decent "family style community, peaceful" neighborhood's along the green-line but the bus system will get you to the station or direct from the better areas. There is a bus system that goes from PV to El Segundo. The van pools from the outer better areas are pretty popular for aerospace people.

Maybe parts of Downey would apply to your criteria. It would require a short drive or a bus ride to the train station.

Otherwise, the only other option is to transfer your way up to the yellow line into Pasadena. If you go that route it's going to be three transfers and a long commute.

What's your budget? Why not the south bay, Hermosa, Manhattan, Redondo Beaches? El Segundo itself. Or north between LAX and Santa Monica or the 90 freeway? You're single - you might like it. I am an engineer working in El Segundo too but I am married with four kids. A lot of my single colleagues live in the places I mentioned above.

I've actually never used the metro. Is it clean or dirty?

Depends on the line.

Gold line is probably the cleanest. Although, as a whole, the system is very clean compared to other systems like New York.

The Green line is the only line, railwise, I haven't used. But, as I understand it, the stations are incredibly noisy due to the freeway traffic.

The gold line is the cleanest but the green line isn't far behind and is almost as clean. The blue line is the dirtiest and the red/purple are in between.

There is a huge new neighborhood being built in El Segundo near the green line. It's on El Segundo Blvd near the 405, but I can't recall the name. It's all condos though. No detached homes from what I saw, but it's only a mile or less from the green line. Another decent neighborhood of smaller homes right next to that in Hawthorne is Del Aire.
