The problem with "The Black Dahlia" was the screenplay, not De Palma's directing. It was mostly shot in South Africa because so much of the old Los Angeles is gone, although there were a few scenes shot in Los Feliz.

I agree about the screenplay, majoun. It was not engaging enough, especially for its length. Also, with the exception of Aaron Eckhart, the acting was subpar. Certainly no performances like Spacey, Crowe, Pierce or Basinger. Or, going back to another De Palma movie, Costner, Connery or DeNiro.
