Hi there folks. I just accepted an offer in Glendale for a new job. I used to live in Venice, and was actually in escrow for a home in Mar Vista. After getting this job offer, I cancelled my escrow and decided to move to an apartment to sort out where to buy on the East Side. I'm currently living in Echo Park, which is fine to rent. But I'm realizing it's a little too "bohemian" and dingy for my taste to buy. I like Silverlake a lot, but that market is getting nuts. Can you guys provide some insight on the areas you'd recommend I check out? My budget max for a home is $550K. If I do a duplex I'd go up a bit with a rental revenue to offset my mortgage.

I should note I'm considering the following places as well:

Eagle Rock
South Pasadena
Highland Park
Glassel Park
Mt. Washington

Thanks in advance!

If you think Echo Park is dingy, then you'll want to pass on Highland Park. South Pas gets my vote.
