I have spent the past 3 days on Craigslist looking for a house rental in Santa monica (where I will be working) My price range is $2,000 -2,500 and even a small bungalow style house will do. I am also open to splitting a house with someone. I have even looked in the higher price points and nada! I have a dog and she needs a way to go to the bathroom while I am at work thus why I need a yard with a door. Help !! I have done searches on here and they are not recent. It's just me and my dog btw.

Can't speak specifically for Santa Monica but in my own town in the Bay Area I rarely see house rentals on craigslist, just apartments. Your best best is a property management company but I have no info on those.

I’m not very familiar with the area, but I was curious, so I decided to check.

Try realtor.com. Even though you are looking for a house, this apartment has its own yard, but the rental price is $3,350 and it's only 900 sq.ft.

Also, I found this guest house at homeseekers.com renting in Santa Monica for $2,750.

320 Sumac Ln
Santa Monica, CA 90402
Charming small 2 bedroom guest house with skylights, fireplace. Santa Monica Canyon. Large pool, barbeque/patio, separate entrance, utilities included, secure parking, 5 min walk to beach $2,750/mo. Isabelle@inthecanyon.com 310.230.3720

Here’s a Hotpads.com listing for a one bed/one bath house in Santa Monica renting for $1895:

1824 12 11th Street
Charming Newly Remodeled House at Santa Monica, CA 1824 12 11th Street Santa Monica, CA 90404

Your money will go further in West LA, Mar Vista, Palms, and Westchester. Do not know if those are options.

Anyway, at most you are looking at a 2bd 1ba house in that price range, but most likely 1bd/1ba.

Oh there's rentals... They're just pricey...

Santa Monica Houses For Rent

Agree with JohnG - regarding stretching your dollars in those areas he suggested. I'd add Culver City to that list as well.

Sure there are rentals, not in your price range though

i did a similar search a while back and found that even modest 2br houses start around $3k/month in SM. having a yard is what will cost you the most. having said that, there are a lot of dog owners in SM, so you'd have to assume many live in apartments and have figured ways to let their dogs 'do their business' while they are at the office.
