I'm in a similar situation as the original poster and I see a lot of people mentioned Priceline having good prices for hotels. Maybe its just the area I need to stay in for my apartment search (Westwood, Brentwood, Santa Monica area) but these prices are kinda outrageous for even non-suites. I'm looking into the Negotiator thing, but not sure how exactly it works and if I'll end up with amenities that I need.

Those are the some of the more expensive areas of the city so that's why the prices are high. If you are renting a car, stay by LAX and book thru Travelocity.
