I was appraising a home in the Ocean Park section of Santa Monica last week and while I was driving around shooting my comps, I noticed racks of Citybikes on a number of corners. What a great idea. When I last visited DC, I would grab a Citybike to see the sights. Pick it up here, leave it there. I loved it. I was just wondering how they're going over in Santa Monica. Seems like a great way to get to the pier or the beach.

I often drive though SaMo and I've seen them being used a surprisingly number of times. I'd caution people to wipe down the handles before using one, however, in case a homeless person touched them, since some of the homeless people like to touch things simply for the sake of touching them.

If they're anything like the bikeshare in NY, DC and Chicago - I'm guessing they're big, clunky and have three speeds: slow, slower and slowest.

Residents probably have their own bikes. I think they're mostly for tourists. I can see them being popular with the local young bar crowd since you can leave them at any station and it's cheaper than Uber.

Yes but I'm certain riding a bike wasted still counts as a DWI. Better stick to Uber if you're going out drinking.

How can they possibly charge a DUI on a bike? What a crock

Because it's possible for an intoxicated bicyclist to do a great deal of harm to a pedestrian or cause an automobile to be involved in an accident.

You can take the bike share to the bar and Uber home. But cops don't really enforce the DUI laws when it comes to cyclists. They generally have bigger fish to fry.
