Of my take home pay (after taxes), I spend about 35% on my mortgage. I have a 30 year fixed, and the house I bought was about 3.5x my annual income.

25% of monthly take home pay is a better number.

LOL, totally agree about LA County.

I pay 33% of make take home pay towards rent and live very comfortably. This matters less the more money you make.

Suppose my take home is around 4700, and i pay 1200 to rent alone, would i still get a comfortable living? Assuming im single, and i work 6 times a week. I just graduated from a bachelors degree and im looking out what tomorrow has for me. I have no educational plans to pay for. They were already paid for by my parents.

Considering that's close to 25%, and assuming you don't have other overwhelming financial obligations, you should be fine.
