Very impressive. I might go there one day to eat.

I love being in downtown (for the most part) and the lofts look great, but I'm still not sure I'd want to be there 24/7. Nothing against downtown in particular; I just don't want to be in any one place 24/7. If I still have my downtown job in a year or two, I'll probably make my move to Beverly Hills or Brentwood.

Nice pics

Doubt DLA will ever recover much despite efforts/boosterism of developers or community organizers...

Most of LA's highest-income jobs are already in CenturyCity or SantaMonica (and more seem to relocate from DLA to CC/SM every few yrs)...closer to Westside homes of top execs and fine dining/bars in BH for business entertainment/mtgs

And for the few yuppies who choose to reside in DLA, will pay heavily for secured, spacious pkg garages...and need to drive to Westside for basic yuppie amenities/errands like upscale groceries, dry cleaners, etc...and to escape heat/smog of inland LA for any outdoor exercise...or even a pleasure drive in coastal canyons...

Already has.

Nonsense. The Ralphs Fresh Fare at 9th/Hope already caters to this crowd to some extent. And then Whole Foods and Trader Joes in Glendale are much closer to DTLA than the westside. If I need dry cleaning, I COULD take it to one of the MANY dry cleaners downtown, but its usually easiest on me to leave the dry cleaning with my building's concierge.

Another bunch of crap. First off, LA county beaches are largely horrible compared to OC beaches. The LA County beaches are filthy, feature nasty water, in some cases are graffiti ridden, and are often inaccessible. OC beaches tend to be cleaner, have cleaner water, are completely accessible, and are less crowded. Since its about a 35-40 minute drive from DTLA to PCH/Goldenwest in HB, I think its hardly some horrible tradeoff to be living downtown in regards to beach access.

As to the canyons....again the canyons in LA County between SFV and the coast largely are NOT fun nor scenic, particularly compared to a drive along Angeles Crest Highway above La Canada...only about a 15 minute drive from DTLA.

DTLA needs a Trader Joes.

The Ralphs is ok, but driving from DTLA to Pasadena or Glendale for a Trader Joes is not too convenient.

Not all of 'em. I have a friend, car-less, has 2 dogs, takes busses/trains/bike to where he needs to go. His basic amenities are all d-town: best DVD store, big bookstore, dry cleaning, lotsa restaurants. He catches lots of plays mid-town, goes to movies, you know the sort of thing 'normal' 'burbanites do.

Safe to say not driving is where the pleasure lies, at least for him. A pretty good life if u ask me.

i.e. a BETTER quality of life than the Westside.

Keep in mind that "hsw" has probably never been in Los Angeles and is a troll who keeps reposting the same crap over and over in this forum which bears absolutely no relation to the reality of the places he writes about.

This is a really good point. I walk to work, walk to do shopping, and walk to much of my entertainment. Basically I only drive on weekends.

As I noted on another thread, I kick myself for not buying some real estate in Downtown back in the 80s. Imagine what it would be now.
