I'm relocating from Studio City to somewhere near El Segundo (for a new job), and one of the apartments that I'm considering is in Mar Vista. From what I've seen in other threads, Mar Vista seems to be mostly safe but with a few not-so-good zones. Someone recommended avoiding the southwestern part of Mar Vista, which borders Culver City and Marina del Rey and is near the projects. Is the intersection of South Centinela Avenue and Wagner Street in that area?

Since the apartment is on Centinela, are there any additional issues that I should be aware of? I noticed that there was quite a bit of traffic noise, but that may be because the front door was open while I was viewing the apartment.

Yeah, that will probably do it. Next time I recommend closing the door if the noise bothers you.

That is in the area that used to be considered southwest Mar Vista and is now called Del Rey. The MV Gardens projects aren't that far away from there. But that is a pretty safe area nowadays.

I guess that's one of the benefits of an apartment that comes with a front door.

Oh. It turns out that Mar Vista Gardens is half of a mile away, and its recent-ish past sounds kind of scary. Has the gang problem around there been cleared up?

Thanks for the Mapping L.A. link. It might become my newest addiction.
