Hi all,

Sorry if you've already answered this question.

But, what's the average commute time in the mornings (8 - 9am) from Sherman Oaks and Studio City to Hollywood?

Just checking! Those areas are not on my apt hunting list, but I keep hearing about them and want to know what the traffic is like from them.

Thanks!

In the car it ranges from 45- 75 minutes if you take the freeways. The bulk of the traffic is on the 101 from Sherman Oaks to Studio City then again from Studio City into Hollywood. The way around part I is take Ventura or Moorpark to the 101 from Studio City into Hollywood. Sometimes Cahuenga is not as backed up which parallels the 101 from Studio City to Hollywood.

Another option is driving to the Metro station in Studio City, parking in their free lot, and taking the subway in.

For clarification there is a Metro Red line station right across the street from Children's Hospital. The Red Line ends at the North Hollywood station. However, I am told the lot fills up early. There is the connecting Orange Line, which is a BUS line that runs like a train. The Orange line cuts across the San Fernando Valley. You may have better luck with parking if an Orange Line station is near your residence. Otherwise, I would make a dry run to the North Hollywood Red Line subway station and see for yourself the parking situation for a weekday morning. I think it takes about 10 minutes to get from North Hollywood to Sunset/Vermont station, which is across the street from Children's Hospital.

Ok, it sounds like Sherman Oaks will be a long haul to get to Sunset and Vermont near Children's Hospital. So, I settled on Burbank. I think that I can handle that commute.

I'm allotting 30 minutes for this commute. Sounds right?

Depends how you go. The 5 is bad during rush hour. I would go surface streets. Take San Fernando Road to Los Feliz Blvd. Traffic is much better that route and is probably 30 minutes.

Where in Burbank did you choose?

You're always helpful! Thanks a bunch.

I'll be one street down (running parallel) to the street that has most of the major studios. That street starts with an A. Can't think of it right now. But, I'm on the street behind it (that runs parallel with the A street). LOL, it wold be so much easier if I could just remember the name. Sorry!

Oh Alameda haha. Thought of it immediately and I'm not in the industry. The 101 is a bad freeway but you can always check the traffic report to see if that is an option before you leave. Sometimes it isn't horrible. Cahuenga parallels the 101 also. So you have a bunch of options.

What the heck?

That is not a long drive by any stretch. From that location in Burbank you have LOTS of options. Either streets to 101, exit 101 and take Franklin.

Or take Riverside Drive to Los Feliz and then Los Feliz over the hill. 30 minutes will be a very bad traffic day.

I'm asking about the driving time in rush hour. Like 8-9am in the morning and 6-7pm in the evening.
