Oops...I misread what Sandy said regarding Yucaipa.....But I still think Yucaipa is very close to the same distance that Glendora is to Chatsworth...I could be wrong though. A lot depends on the direction of the earthquake and the ground plus, of course, the distance. For instance, my son lives in Tujunga Cyn. CA.--next to Sunland. He felt very little of the Northridge quake but people all around that area felt it a bunch. I suppose he could have been protected by the surrounding mountains in the cyn. Who knows??!!

I felt it in West LA. Shook my place for a few seconds as the 'wave' rolled past.

Checked USGS.

Oh, and notice the people who think "Could it be a prelude to something bigger?" are the same negative types who think the sky is falling in other threads. Can't win with some people, either the sky is falling, or the ground is rising, SHEESH!

i was beginning to doze off at the time, and was a little disoriented at first, so now i can't remember what it felt like. i should have described the experience in my first post, but i was half-asleep. this one must have bothered me more than usual, because i had nightmares about earthquakes all night, and woke up this morning because i thought the building was collapsing. that didn't even happen to me in '89 when i was ten miles from the epicenter of the 6.(something) loma prieta quake.

If you want you can report your experience at:

Event 14312160 Questionnaire

They can usually calculate immediately what the magnitude was in your area, just from your thorough responses. The first part was a very hard jerk and freaked me out a bit. Then a pause and then 2 seconds of shaking.

I forgot to mention I am in the west LA area.

I like keeping an eye on the USGS earthquake site with the event questionnaire I posted above as over time they give more specifics about the areas surrounding the epicenter and how many posted that they felt it and at what level in your area. Cool. :-). I love LA/California.

Here's the link to the poster's stats, their zip codes and what their responses tell about the magnitude, as well as the calculated magnitude:

Event 14312160 Statistics

Looks as though my area dropped to a mag. 3. I am sure now I will get razzed later from the old time LA folks having such a long post about a mag 3--LOL.
that's really cool. i guess i shouldn't have signed off so soon after posting, but i was afraid of power outages, so i turned off the computer. i was half-asleep, and not thinking clearly-- obviously!

It was a 6.9 EQ (the '89 Loma Prieta).

Right, it was tagged as a 7.1, then a 7.0 then a 6.9.
Just like this morning's Chatsworth quake was tagged as 4.5, now it's 4.6.
