Hi there,

My fiance and I are looking to drive to San Diego tomorrow afternoon (Friday). Unfortunately, we can leave the city (downtown) only around 4 PM. What would be the best way to get to San Diego? Is it worse taking the I-5 to Orange County or the I-405? Is it possible to take the PCH all the way? Please let me know what would make for the most pleasant drive.

Thanks!

Stinks to be you. There is no pleasant way. Expect 3.5-4 hours.

1 hour just to Beach Bl/405(5 is unthinkable IMO)

if you can't leave until 4, then you're better off waiting until after 7.

The best route is by helicopter.

Friday afternoon/evening is a terrible time to try to go anywhere in L.A.

if you have a Fasttrac that will help. But, even then, unless you absolutely must leave at 4pm for some reason, it would be best to wait until after 7pm no matter what route you take.

We have to drive from LA to SD on Friday, July 29. However, we can leave around 11 AM.
What should we expect as far as traffic at that time of day? Also, would the above routes still be best/necessary?

it should take about 2 hours during the middle of the day. depending on where in LA you are, i would take the 405S>5S or 5S the whole way. make sure you check traffic on sigalert or google maps before you leave.
