Comedy and Magic Club?
Mystery Dinner - where the diners play roles in the murder mystery.

Either of those can take a bit of the "interview" pressure off.

I try to combine dinner with a walkable area. I usually hate to spend more than just dinner on a first date(which is already usually $50-80), so I want free or low cost entertainment afterwards. I also use it to check how high maintenance or "princess" like she is....those types usually HATE to walk.

So something like dinner at LA Live, Old Town Pasadena, or something similiar is usually my choice. If we hit it off, I'll know while we are walking. If not, cut the night short and hit Commerce Casino or something.

I try not to mess with the dinner on a first date. Most women expect it, it tends to be the best setting for getting to know someone, and theres not a lot to get in the way of conversation.

My favorite date ever in LA was as follows:

Picked up by my date and then he drove to a flower shop. While I waited in the car he went in and bought 2 dz. purple roses.

We then drove to a little Italian bistro on Melrose and had appetizers/drinks.

Then on to the Santa Monica Pier for games and rides and hot dogs.

Sat on the beach for hours and talked.

He took me home and asked if I wanted to take a drive to Vegas right then and there (I declined).

Best date ever!

That is another good reason to avoid the typical dinner and other expensive activity date. This one is high maintenance, but not in that way. More high maintenance in how she looks. I may try Tokyo Gardens, the Getty, or LA Live. Thanks for all the suggestions!

No mention of what kind of art she likes, so I'd suggest photography. It gives you immediate common ground for conversation. The Fahey/Klein gallery is on North La Brea, so you can head up into Hollywood or Melrose for a stroll afterwards. The Duncan Miller gallery is in West L.A. You can go to Venice or Santa Monica afterward. Try downtown too, but I really think photography's the way to go on a first date.
