So basically I'm from Northern California and I'm staying with my grandparents this summer. I dont come to LA too often so I don't know anyone here or what fun things there are to do. Also I'm 17 years old.

What a drag, normally a young man your age would be spending time with friends enjoying the summer break. Do you know any kids in the area that are your age? What part of LA are you staying? Do you have a car or access to a car (not including stealing one :0)

My car needs a wash and wax, and I'll let you do it all for free.

norcalkid2011 yes, please tell us what part of town you're staying in and also if you have transportation.

In the meantime, what do you like to do? Here's just some general stuff:

Enjoy music--and who doesn't?--than of course you must go to Amoeba on Sunset. It's huge and you could probably hang out there the better part of a day and not get bored. Amoeba Music – The World's Largest Independent Record Store

Books? There's a cool indie bookstore on Vermont called Skylight Books. Skylight Books | What a neighborhood bookstore should be...

Movies? Lots of places to go: the Arclight, the New Beverly Cinema, the Egyptian, UCLA is showing some old westerns with Robert Mitchum, etc.,

Shopping? (sorry, you don't say if you're male or female) Cool stores on Vermont in Los Feliz, then there's the Grove, the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Melrose Avenue (although when I was there I didn't think it was anything special).

The beach in Santa Monica has the Pier.

Check LA Weekly for more things to do: Los Angeles News, Events, Restaurants, Music LA Weekly and let us know your interests so people can make more recs.

I suggest visiting the La Brea Tar Pits and museums along Miracle Mile.

In other words, grandma and grandpa will let you borrow the Oldsmobile from time to time? Is it one of the cool ones with a fabric roof and opera lights?

I nicknamed Southern California the Spoiled Capital of the World because of all the activities and things there is to do here, we are spoiled because we have everything to keep ourselves entertained
