My girlfriend and I are in our late 20s. We are currently living in Silverlake, but tired of the “gritty, hipster” vibe and looking to move to the Westside. We found a good spot on near the intersection of Westwood & Ashby. I’m curious on your thoughts of the area…

I am a professional in downtown LA. She will be working in Santa Monica. We both like coffee shops, restaurants, bars, fun things to do around the neighborhood. Walking distance would be ideal, but we aren’t afraid to bike a mile or so either.

I really like to run around Silverlake Reservoir – are there any good running spots in Rancho Park or Century City?

What would traffic be like to get downtown (near LA Live area) during rush hour? What about the commute home?

We aren’t 21 anymore and don’t need to be in a rowdy scene, but would like to be a short commute away from meeting friends at bars on Saturday nights

Is $1495 too much for a large studio apartment in this neighborhood? (all utilities are paid)

Any other advice or info on the neighborhood would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

It's a good area. Safe, very centrally located, a fair amount going on. I guess it's a decent compromise between DTLA and SM for job commute, neither commute will be too bad, though traffic could easily bump the commutes up to 45 minutes. Olympic is a good alternative to the 10 freeway and you'll be close to both.

There are plenty of bars near the area, both east and west. Maybe not so much walking distance, but a $10 cab ride or under should be very doable.

1495 does seem a bit high for a studio in the area. It better be really nice.

when i used to work in century city i used to see lots of people jogging through the neighborhood streets of cheviot hills. there's also a big park near motor/pico where you could go for a run. as for your rent budget, $1500 should get you a nice 1br. anyways, it's a pretty sleepy area once you're off the main thoroughfares. most of the housing stock is single family homes, so finding apartments might be difficult. if you're looking for a little more action, the area around downtown culver city might be a little better for you.
